Castaway Cay: Disney’s Own Private Island

One of the major attractions of a Disney Cruise is the port stop of Castaway Cay. Disney’s very own island. Many cruisers say that this is the highlight of their Disney vacation.

Disney thought of everything on this amazing Island. Castaway Cay is located in the Bahamas and is usually the last stop on each cruise. Some special itineraries have 2 stops there – many cruisers were saying that the only problem with Castaway Cay is that they would have like to have spent more time there.

Disney designed this to be the perfect port stop. They even built their own port so there is no need for tenders. Occasionally cruisers have been disappointed as bad weather meant that they couldn’t make the stop at Castaway Cay but this is very rare.

One of the most popular places on the island is the family beach. A beautiful stretch of perfect white sand and palm trees that the whole family can enjoy. Many people choose to snorkel or just relax and rent a float for $6 to enjoy playing in the water. You can also rent all kinds of boats for a cost of $8 to $20 for 30 minutes.

Transportation around the island is on trams – much like those that you find around the Disney theme parks. So getting around is very easy. You can also walk or rent a bike and travel along the well-designed bike paths and walkways.

Again the adults are not forgotten. There is the Serenity Bay Adult Beach reserved exclusively for those 18 and older. This includes the Castaway Cay Air Bar-B-Q. And of course, there is a bar!

Adults with kids may want to take a break and enjoy some time on their own. Disney has thought of all of this for you. Scuttle’s Beach is a supervised playground. Parents can check the children into the Oceaneers Club or Lab right here while they enjoy some adult time!

For those who want a truly relaxing experience then try a cabana massage. Pure bliss……

The Sport’s Beach is another great place on Castaway Cay. This is located right next to the Teen Beach – another great location for teenagers to hang out on a Disney Cruise.

Food is included on your visit to Castaway Cay. Serenity Bay has it’s own cafe and Cookie’s BBQ is located right across from the Family Beach. They serve barbecue type items including burgers, sandwiches, fruit, and of course soda.

The only difficult thing about Castaway Cay is having to leave it behind. You usually arrive at around 8 am and have to sail away at 5 pm.

Flying Dutchman Ghost Ship

No, you aren’t seeing things. That really is the ship from Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

This is moored at Castaway Cay. Unfortunately, you can’t board it. But if you would like to take a closer look then book a Banana Boat Excursion or rent a Waverunner.

Excursions on Castaway Cay

One of the most popular excursions is Castaway Ray’s Stingray Adventure. This is a fascinating educational program that everyone aged 5 and up can enjoy. Pick up your snorkel equipment and your expert guide will begin your tour with an interesting educational talk about the stingrays. Yes, the stingrays have had their barbs removed for your safety. A guide will take you into the water and help you to interact and touch the stingrays. Then you are free to snorkel by yourselves. Most guests are very positive about this excursion – it is a big favorite.

Other excursions include bottom fishing, jet-ski or Waverunner rental, catamaran snorkel adventure, glass-bottomed boat tour, and kayak nature adventure. Also for teens only is The Wild Side which includes snorkeling, kayaking, and biking.

Other Tips To Get A Discount on a Disney Cruise

How can I save on my Disney Cruise vacation?

It is always worth trying other ways to get a discount on a Disney cruise! Using a travel agent can often be a smart move. Find one who you can trust and ideally who is a Disney specialist as they are often very good at finding those deals for you.

You can often find a great deal on a Disney cruise online. Disney often offers discounts on cruises to Florida residents on certain sailings usually at slower times of the year.

Disney Visa Cardholders are often eligible for onboard credits of around $25 per stateroom. AAA and Costco members should also check out if there are any deals through these clubs.

Disney Cruise Line does give military discounts. Usually, the discount is the same as those for Florida residents and this can be a really great deal. Active and retired members of the military and Department of Defense personnel are often eligible for discounts.
