Visit the archeological site of Tulum

Take a bus from the ADO bus station that will take you to the archaeological site of Tulum. Bus cost: $104 Mexican pesos one way at 8:15, 9:15 and 10:15 am (roundtrip $208 Mexican pesos). Tulum entrance fee is $57 Mexican pesos. Schedule – Monday to Sunday 8 am – 5 pm.

Visit Playa del Carmen

Another inexpensive activity is visiting the cosmopolitan village of Playa del Carmen. Take a bus from the ADO bus station and visit the famous 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen, which is full of Mexican restaurants and Mexican Caribbean shops. Bus cost – $48 Mexican pesos (one way). Schedule – every 30 minutes from 5 am to 11:30 pm. Playa del Carmen (also known as PDC) is located on the crystal blue waters of the Mexican Caribbean, just 40 miles south of Cancun, with miles and miles of white sandy beaches.

Visit Playa Delfines in Cancun

Also known as “El Mirador”, a “must walk beach” Playa Delfines is the most known public beach in Cancun. Not recommended for swimming if you’re not an expert though. This beach lacks heavy crowds from the hotel area. Very accessible by bus, rental car or taxi.

Visit Playa Norte in Isla Mujeres

One of the most famous inexpensive activities in Cancun is visiting Isla Mujeres, an island located just in front of Cancun in the Mexican Caribbean Sea, a perfect destination for a day trip. A great way to spend the day in Isla Mujeres is at Playa Norte, which has shallow waters and stunning white sand. For lunch, we recommend any of the several restaurants on the main avenue of the small island. Ferry costs $17USD roundtrip every hour from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm.

Akumal is well-known to be home to many different types of turtles. Enjoy a day in a different bay from all those found in Cancun and Riviera Maya, with calm waves perfect for snorkeling and watch a natural spectacle with many turtles and fish. Take a bus to Playa del Carmen ($48 Mexican pesos one way) and then take a “colectivo” to Akumal, which are located on Calle 2 Norte between Av. 15 and 20 ($30 Mexican pesos one way).
